Glenn Schaum
I want to take a couple minutes to introduce myself for those who don’t know me. My name is Glenn Schaum and I have lived in the Oreland community of Springfield Township for the last 38 years. I attended Springfield High School and have worked in the ice cream machine business for the past 25 years, currently working as the Service Manager for Taylor Products.
I have been an active member of the Oreland Volunteer Fire Company since I turned 16 years old and currently serve as both the Secretary on the business side and Assistant Chief on the firefighting side.
Personally I’m happy to announce that in February 2008 my wife Anne and I will celebrate our 33rd anniversary. Our daughter Kelsey is a freshman at Springfield High School and I’m very proud of her accomplishments in both academics and sports through her participation in Field Hockey.
I have been the Commissioner in Ward 3 for the past 10 years, participating in three elections. My first election was to fill a vacancy that occurred when Commissioner Lucy Longstreth resigned from office after serving two years. The next two elections were for four year terms. Over the past 10 years I have been the liaison to the Springfield Township Emergency Management system and worked very hard in the area of Public Safety through the hiring of additional Police Officers. I’ve also worked closely with the Fire Companies and the Springfield Ambulance and continue to provide guidance in developing ordinances that deal with safe building construction and fire suppression sprinklers.
We have successfully tackled a large number of storm water issues in Springfield, adding new detention basins throughout Springfield Township to control our storm water run off. All of this while controlling spending and decreasing real estate property taxes.
But my work is not finished! I hope that I continue to earn your support and I look forward to continuing to help all Springfield township residents.
